Amex Construction LLC is hiring experienced Heavy Equipment Operators for civil site work, excavation, utilities, septic systems, drainage, grading, concrete prep, demolition, and general construction projects across the South Shore, Cape Cod, and Southeastern Massachusetts.

We are looking for reliable, safety-minded operators who can run equipment efficiently, work around crews safely, understand job site conditions, and help move projects forward without creating damage, delays, or rework.

This is not a seat-warmer position. We need operators who can think ahead, communicate clearly, protect the equipment, protect the crew, and produce clean work.

Position: Heavy Equipment Operator / Lead Operator
Location: Hanover, MA
Work Area: South Shore, Cape Cod, and Southeastern Massachusetts
Schedule: Monday–Friday, typical start time 7:00 AM. Saturdays may be required depending on project needs.
Pay: Competitive hourly pay based on experience, licenses, reliability, and ability.

Who We Are Looking For

The right candidate is an experienced operator who can safely and productively operate equipment on active construction sites.

You should be able to work around laborers, trucks, utilities, trenches, foundations, grades, inspectors, customers, subcontractors, and tight site conditions without needing constant supervision.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in safe work, clean work, and efficient production.

Typical Work Includes

Heavy Equipment Operators may assist with:

  • Excavation and backfill

  • Utility trenching

  • Septic system installation

  • Drainage and stormwater work

  • Site grading and subgrade preparation

  • Foundation excavation

  • Concrete prep and stone placement

  • Demolition support

  • Loading trucks

  • Material handling

  • Loam, grading, and site restoration

  • Working around existing utilities, structures, roads, and tight access areas

  • Supporting laborers and other crew members as needed

  • Daily equipment checks and reporting maintenance concerns

  • Keeping work areas clean, organized, and safe

Equipment Experience

Applicants should have experience operating some or all of the following:

  • Excavators

  • Mini excavators

  • Skid steers

  • Compact track loaders

  • Loaders

  • Dozers

  • Backhoes

  • Rollers and compactors

  • Small equipment and attachments

Experience with lasers, grades, trench boxes, pipe work, septic systems, utilities, drainage, and site layout is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Operators are expected to:

  • Operate equipment safely, efficiently, and productively

  • Follow direction from the project manager, foreman, or site supervisor

  • Read and understand basic plans, grades, elevations, and layout information

  • Work safely around trenches, equipment, trucks, traffic, utilities, and active job sites

  • Support excavation, utility, septic, concrete, demolition, and site work crews

  • Communicate clearly with supervisors, laborers, truck drivers, subcontractors, and inspectors

  • Identify unsafe conditions before they become problems

  • Help prevent damage to utilities, structures, equipment, pavement, landscaping, and finished work

  • Maintain awareness of production, schedule, and job site efficiency

  • Complete basic daily equipment checks and report maintenance issues

  • Represent Amex Construction professionally with customers, inspectors, subcontractors, and vendors

Lead Operators may also help direct small crews, coordinate daily tasks, and support job site documentation.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Valid MA Hoisting License for applicable equipment

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Reliable transportation to the shop or assigned job site

  • Prior heavy equipment operating experience

  • Ability to work outdoors in changing weather and active construction conditions

  • Ability to work safely around excavations, utilities, traffic, equipment, and crew members

  • Ability to follow direction and communicate clearly

  • Ability to perform physical construction-related tasks as needed, with or without reasonable accommodation

  • Strong awareness of safety, quality, production, and equipment care

Preferred Qualifications

The following are preferred:

  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30

  • CDL Class A or B

  • DOT Medical Card, if assigned to regulated driving

  • Hot Work Certification

  • Experience with septic systems, utilities, drainage, grading, concrete prep, and civil site work

  • Experience reading plans and working from grades

  • Experience leading or supporting a small crew

  • Strong mechanical awareness and respect for equipment maintenance
